The behaviour of soil and water cannot always be predicted with accuracy. This is often caused by variations in properties, natural deposits and estuaria. This can lead to considerable risks during construction and decontamination projects. The state-of-the-art in engineering is not sufficiently apparent in practice, particularly uncertainties and their continuation into risk management during construction processes. Implementation of new, promising concepts does not always progress quickly enough.
Using a focused transfer of knowledge, particularly in the bridging function between science and practice (a central activity of Deltares, the Dutch National Institute for Delta Technology), Deltares Academy can fill in the gaps that have been described.

Academy Deltares Academy is Deltares’ educational facility in the field of geo- and hydraulic engineering by means of international courses, masterclasses and ICT facilities. The international courses focus on knowledge development of professionals dealing with soil and water related projects. These are continuing education courses for practitioners, taught by practitioners. The emphasis is on why and how. Most lecturers are major players in their area of expertise. The practical application of the course content is safeguarded by the use of case histories and workshops.
All international courses are English spoken.
