Course leaders Martin van Staveren, GeoDelft Dirk Pereboom, GeoDelft
Course background Worldwide ground-related uncertainty and risks dominate civil engineering and construction projects. This course raises the awareness and facilitates cost-effective management measures for a large variety of ground-related risks. Risk management has proven to be a key success factor in the execution of today's high demanding construction projects. This course offers practical applications of state-of-the-art theories on how to come to grips with events you want to prevent from happening.
Aim of the course This three-day course incorporates lectures and workshops on structured geotechnical risk management by means of the GeoQ risk management process. GeoQ is developed by GeoDelft, the Dutch national institute for geo-engineering. GeoQ is an easy-to-use and flexible framework for geotechnical risk management during the entire life cycle of all types of construction projects. Participants who have completed the course will be able to adopt and apply GeoQ in daily practice.
Topics are:
- about you - the role of the professional in geotechnical risk management
- the six GeoQ risk management phases and steps
- how to remediate your geotechnical risk:
- field tests, laboratory tests and monitoring
- use of expert databases
- the observational method, and more
- contractual risk allocation: benefits of the geotechnical baseline report
- risk-based solutions for maintenance of infrastructure.
Excursion The fourth day of the course is an optional day with an excursion to Rotterdam Central Station in combination with the Statentunnel. The new Rotterdam Central Station will become a grand transport interchange. The Statentunnel links the light rail coming from the The Hague area to Rotterdam Central Station via an underground tunnel of 2,4 km. At Rotterdam Central Station the light rail will be connected with the existing underground network of the Rotterdam Metro.
Enrolment, fee and registration The registration fee is € 1,250.-- for three days and € 250.-- for the optional fourth day with excursion. The course fee includes course documentation, the textbook Uncertainty and Ground Conditions - A Risk Management Approach by Martin van Staveren, lunches and refreshments during the breaks. The fee does not include VAT. International participants from within the European Union are charged 0% VAT only when they provide their organizations VAT number. Participants from outside the European Union are exempt from VAT, hence 0% VAT will be charged. Please use the electronic form on this website for registration.
